Vine

The newest and hottest app has to be Vine.  The app for iPhone and iPad lets you record 6 second videos and share them.  It is Instagram but video and it is every fun.  The app has been out but a week now and is blowing up.  I have been playing with for a few days and loving every 6 seconds of it.  Fun, simple and entertaining, Vine lets you venture into the world of video sharing on a whole new level. You can find your friends, follow and share your life in video.

Download the app.  You can follow me at Daniel Gross and to see the power of this app, follow the actor Adam Goldberg.  His shorts are killing it.

Happy videoing with Vine.

SPAM

Somedays all the SPAM emails seem to never end and it only seems to be getting worse.

Dear SPAM senders,

I don't need a hip replacement at this time, my college degrees are up to date, and thanks but no thanks for the various gift cards. You see, last week I inherited several million dollars from some guy I have never heard of in Africa. The check should be in the mail so I will be able to buy what I need with that million dollar inheritance.

Sincerely yours,

Mr. Money Bags

A Collection a Day, 2010

Collecting is something I think many of us designers do. For most of us, they end up as a pile in a box or sitting on a book shelf. So what do you do with your collections and how to you showcase what you have accumulated over the years. One designer, Lisa Congdon from San Francisco, has decided to photograph and occasionally paint or draw her many collections to exhibit one a day for the whole year of 2010. That is a ton of collecting but as a series they give us a reflexion into Lisa's life, loves and experiences. Lisa Congdon's Collection a Day, 2010 has it's self become a wonderful collection that is visually appealing, informative and fun. To view the whole of her collections from this year, go to this site.

MOMA In Your Pocket

Is that the MOMA in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? The MOMA has added an iPhone app that is just wonderful for all lovers of art. The app allows you to view thousands of works from the vast MOMA collection on your iPhone, see and hear about special exhibits, learn more of the artists and hear curators discuss works. For those that visit the MOMA, you can add to your experience by audio touring or checking the calendar for events and times. The MOMA is open to 8 pm tonight, see I found that out in an instant. This is an exciting and FREE app. In the short time I have been using it, it loads info and images very quick, the interface is well organized. I look forward to see how this app expands by adding even more works. I thank MOMA for setting the stage for other world class museum to follow. These types of apps will make our visiting experiences even better and allow us to take home those sweet memories in our pockets.

A Cluttered Desk Is A Creative Desk

A cluttered desk may be a sign of intelligence and being creative. At least I hope that is so. It has been observed that many creative individuals have desks that are in a state of clutter but that clutter is a way of organization, to a point. Ellen Lupton has written an article on desk clutter and filing for Fast Company based on the book Design Your Life she wrote with her sister Julia Lupton.

The Visual Dictionary

Looking to spell it out for a client or friend? You will have to check out The Visual Dictionary where contributors send along photos of words. Started my Matthew Knight, the sites goal is to collect as many photographs of words as possible. You can search by word or have fun with the random button to see what you get. The Visual Dictionary is a great little site to inspire and keep your passions flowing. Check out The Visual Dictionary and spell it out clearly next time.

56K Modem

I was teaching a web design class tonight and started talking about the early days of the web. This brought up the times of dial up modems and slow downloads. If you sometimes long for that nostalgic noise from the modem but not the slow speeds of course, check out this site to hear that old sound of progress being made. I am sure this 56K Modem Emulator will make you smile.
