A Magical Tour of European Architecture

NIGHTVISION from Luke Shepard on Vimeo.

Enjoy this wonderful journey through Europe at night created by Luke Shepard.
Nightvision is a celebration of the brilliance and diversity of architecture found across Europe. Over the course of three months I journeyed with a friend through 36 cities in 21 countries with the ambition of capturing some of the greatest European structures in a new and unique way. Comprised of thousands of carefully taken photographs, strung together and stabilized in post-production, Nightvision aims to inspire appreciation for these man-made landmarks. Nightvision would not have been possible without my Kickstarter backers, the support of the American University of Paris community, everyone who helped along the way, and of course, those who designed and built these architectural masterpieces.

Vine

The newest and hottest app has to be Vine.  The app for iPhone and iPad lets you record 6 second videos and share them.  It is Instagram but video and it is every fun.  The app has been out but a week now and is blowing up.  I have been playing with for a few days and loving every 6 seconds of it.  Fun, simple and entertaining, Vine lets you venture into the world of video sharing on a whole new level. You can find your friends, follow and share your life in video.

Download the app.  You can follow me at Daniel Gross and to see the power of this app, follow the actor Adam Goldberg.  His shorts are killing it.

Happy videoing with Vine.

SNCF Tilt-Shift Video

The French national railroad, SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer français) presents this great ad to communicate the rail crossing changes and other upgrades they have instituted to increase the safety of rail travelers. I love the "tilt-shift" process and think it was a great way for the SNCF to share with their riders.

Typography Video - Off Book - PBS

PBS has produced this video as part of its series Off Book. From the PBS site comes this description:
Type is everywhere. Every print publication, website, movie, advertisement and public message involves the creation or selection of a fitting typeface. Online, a rich and artistic typographical culture exists, where typefaces are created and graphic design seeps in to every image.

In episode 2 of Off Book, typeface designers Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones outline the importance of selecting the right font to convey a particular feeling. Graphic designer Paula Scher talks about building identity in messaging, while Eddie Opara uses texture to create reaction. Infographic designers Julia Vakser and Deroy Peraza map complicated data sets into digestible imagery, mixing color, graphics and type.

Milton Glaser: To Inform & Delight - The DVD

MILTON GLASER: TO INFORM AND DELIGHT: Movie Trailer - Click here for the funniest movie of the week
The movie Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight will be released on DVD on April 27, 2010. The film is directed by Wendy Keys and gives us an intimate look at the work and life of Milton Glaser. The film covers this great designer, educator and humanitarian through personnel interviews of Milton and those that have been touched in working with him. The film will leave you with the knowledge and understanding of how Milton's work and life have influence generations of designers. A true New Yorker, the city has influenced and given Milton an identity that few designers have had in our profession. The works of Milton inspire us all to be better designers and better humans and is reflexed in the relationships and humor that he has built over a career. Milton is one of the most genuine people I have come into the company of and this film is a wonderful reflection of a great man.

The synopsis from the Arthouse Films website includes:
For many, Milton Glaser is the personification of American graphic design. Best known for co-founding New York Magazine and the enduring I ♥ NY campaign, the full breadth of Glaser's remarkable artistic output is revealed in this documentary portrait, MILTON GLASER: TO INFORM AND DELIGHT. From newspapers and magazine designs, to interior spaces, logos, and brand identities, to his celebrated prints, drawings, posters and paintings, the documentary offers audiences a much richer appreciation for one of the great modern renaissance men.

Artfully directed by first time filmmaker Wendy Keys, the film glances into everyday moments of Glaser's personal life and capture his immense warmth, humanity and the boundless depth of his intelligence and creativity.
Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight is available to order through Amazon and will make an excellent and must have addition to your design library.

Look for my next post about To Inform and Delight which will include how you can win a copy of the DVD or an autographed poster of the film by Milton.
