Remembering Neil Armstrong

To ride among the stars and walk on the moon have been experienced by few and Neil Armstrong was the first to complete that mission.  Neil Armstrong, along with the entire Apollo 11 crew, showed the world what can be accomplished by taking a small step.  Neil Armstrong had the courage to bravely believe in the future of man and demonstrate for all what we can accomplish when we work together as a nation.

Red Storm Rising - Soviet Art

Today marks 50 years since a man first went into space. On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin took off aboard the Vostok 3KA-3 rocket and became the first man to enter space and to orbit the earth. The USSR made it to space first.

The USSR was proud of their state and its accomplishments such as Yuri's trip to space. The Soviet era brought about a great period of poster/propaganda art. This design style has become symbolic of the times and was inspired by the times. To read further on Soviet Art check out this link.

To The Moon Alice

Forty years ago today NASA launched the Apollo 11 mission to the moon landing 4 days later. To celebrate this monumental event in human history several sites have been put up related to the mission. Space has long fascinated mankind and continues with the launch yesterday of a Space Shuttle mission to the Space Station. The images above are from a LIFE site of space models.
