A Collection a Day, 2010

Collecting is something I think many of us designers do. For most of us, they end up as a pile in a box or sitting on a book shelf. So what do you do with your collections and how to you showcase what you have accumulated over the years. One designer, Lisa Congdon from San Francisco, has decided to photograph and occasionally paint or draw her many collections to exhibit one a day for the whole year of 2010. That is a ton of collecting but as a series they give us a reflexion into Lisa's life, loves and experiences. Lisa Congdon's Collection a Day, 2010 has it's self become a wonderful collection that is visually appealing, informative and fun. To view the whole of her collections from this year, go to this site.

3 Years aNEW

It has been 3 years and 594 post since I began this trip into the world of blogging. Looking back it has been fun and I have learned that keeping this blog has been a good source of inspiration from time to time. I have made a few new friends and caught up with others over these 3 years. Readership is up from our first day of one reader and I have been posting on a regular basis between getting lost in some awesome websites. The blog has a twitter feed and I at times tweet a word or so. Overall, 3 is a good age and I continue to look forward to more to come. Thank you readers and those that have left comments (even the Russian stripper whose comments I had to delete, sorry) these past years. Cheers.

Pr*tty Sh*tty Blog

Take a look around you on a daily basis and you will see pr*tty design and lots of sh*tty design. Capture the good and bad, add you commentary and you get the wonderful blog that looks at it all, Pr*tty Sh*tty. I came across Pr*tty Sh*tty several months ago and the examples, humor and insight keep getting better. I would recommend putting Pr*tty Sh*tty on you list of blogs to check on a regular basis and hope that if your work comes up, its Pr*tty.

Read Between The Leading

Get your passions going and learn more about our craft from the podcasts of Read Between The Leading. RBTL is the brain child of Aaron Heth and Matt McInerney, two passionate design students at the Savannah College of Art & Design.
"Because we love design, and talking about design so much, we thought we’d give the audio world a try. We try to record three or four episodes per month."
To date they have recorded twenty episodes which can be heard on their site, Read Between The Leading or downloaded to your computer as a podcast. The two, Aaron and Matt, are both informative and entertaining. They cover such topics as typography, interview designers, discuss design books, websites, design events, studios, and of course good and not so good design. You can follow Aaron and Matt on twitter at @rbtlshow and Typoholism.com which is a single serving twitter app. It searches twitter for the hashtag #typoholism and displays it on this page. Make sure you download a podcast or listen to episodes at the RBTL site. I know you will enjoy these two up and coming designers. Keep up the great work Aaron and Matt!

Boarding Pass at Prêt à Voyager

My thanks go out to Anne Ditmeyer who hosts the wonderful Prêt à Voyager blog for featuring me in a Boarding Pass. Anne's blog Prêt à Voyager is a combination of travel and design information. Her posts are always fresh and interesting. Anne is a designer living in Baltimore, my hometown, so I love hearing of updates from Charm City. Be sure to check out the other designers featured in her continuing column, Boarding Pass along with Anne's travels, designs and links at Prêt à Voyager. Thanks again, Anne!

Seeing Orange

Tropicana recently changed up its package design from the "orange with the straw in it" to this new look. I am kinda digging the orange shaped cap. Read all about the up roar at the Daily Heller by Steven Heller.

Paris Design

My friend Anne over at PRÊT À VOYAGER has just finished a great four-part series on Design in Paris for Design*Sponge. The articles cover designer from various backgrounds. The designers are profiled, questioned about their process, and show off their goods. This is an excellent series to review. Check out all four-parts in Anne Ditmeyer's Regional Roundup Paris.
